Wadood’s century & Dugal’s half century sealed the third place for GESLCC in CSPL preliminary round by beating Young Swiss Colts CC by 140 runs at Cossonay grounds.
GESLCCC won the toss and elected to bat and scored 290 runs for seven wickets. It was a pleasure to play at the Cosoonay grounds which is excellent all round, and on a beautiful sun shine day.
GESLCC openers Uddika got out for 16 while Sanjeeva, as usual, portrayed his steadiness and partnered with Wadood to bring the score to 160. This was Wadood’s first century for this season and he scored 108 runs (5X6, 7×4) before being caught by Jack at long mid-on. Then Dugal made a quick half century. He was run-out at 65 runs (3×6) (5×4).
Lalantha was bowled for 17 runs. Sathees not out 10 and Arun 4 run-out on last bowl of the innings.
Yong Swiss Colts (U19) First wicket fall at 9 runs: Aidan out for a duck, brilliantly caught by Arun at backward point. Yash Roy is the only one who batted well and scored 69 runs 9×2, 10×4.
GESLCC’s bowling and fielding were excellent. Sathees Kumar took the last 3 wickets within his single over in the 31 st over in the innings, only with 3 runs.
Majuran, Wadood, and Uddika took 2 wickets each, while Lalantha, Dugal, and Arun made their extraordinary spells restricted Swiss Colts all out for 150 runs in 31 Overs.
Arun bowled 5 overs in his first time in CSPL: fast bowling at a good pace.
The GESLCC has introduce two young players: Geeth Anjana, Ethan Bamdaranayke, both were in their inaugural CSPL match. Unfortunately, they did not have the opportunity to show their true colours at this match.
After the match, Captain Zarook’s family offered a delicious picnic dinner.
The GESLCC club management congratulated for their excellent cricket and wished them all good luck for the Quarter Final match scheduled for 21 st August in Olten.
