The Geneva Sri Lanka Cricket Club lost the Quarter Final match against to Power Winterthur cricket Club by 44 runs, played on 3rd of September on home ground. This resulted GESLCC in being eliminated from the CSPL tournament 2017.
GESLCC Captain Mounir Baron won the toss and elected POWER Winterthur to bat first. Lalantha took first wicket on the first over and continue with wadood an excellent spell of bowling took 4 wickets totalling 31 runs on the scoreboard for 5 wickets. Balasubramani scored 75 runs until the total score reach to 172 all out for 27 overs.
The match continue without a break. GESLCC needed a target of 4.2 average runs per over to win the match. However, unfortunately GESLCC lost its first two wickets with no runs. This was the start of a colossal collapse of the team. However, Dugel and Zarook kept their steady batting partnership of 67 runs. When Dugel bowled out for 38 runs, Majuran join and scored 36 runs with Zarook who stayed until the end of the match scoring 24 runs. In the mean time, the top 5 batsmen got out for a Duck leaving the final score of 128 for 30 overs.
This is an embarrassing defeat for the GESLCC on the CSPL tournament. The club management and all the supporters were disappointed by the batting performance of the Players as they expected to win the match with a attainable score to chase. This needless to say that the team got eliminated form the entire tournament of 2017.
The management racons that the poor performance was due to insufficient practice. In view of this, the Management is looking forward to reorganizing the team structure and the approach for the next season, including new players in 2018.
