The best ever tour in Porto

The combination of veterans & youngsters got engaged to show their best performances to win Annual Friendly Cricket Matches played on 15 &16th June 2019 in Porto, Portugal.  The both games were won by GESLCC by respectable margin.

The first match started on a cool sunny day.  The Porto Captain won the toss and elected to bat first.  The GESLCC captain Dugal and vice captain open the innings Unfortunately Arun got injured (retired hurt) when he was only 2 runs.  Then Mitusan joined Dugal and built a 76runs partnership when the first wicket fell. A total of 206 was scored for a loss of 2 wickets. Dugal 46 & Sudath 7 runs both got out.  Mithusan scored 89 runs while Roshan scored 42 – both not out.  As a response to that, The Porto scored 161 runs for the loss of 8 wickets within the allocated overs.Junid & Binoy took one wicket each.

Oproto Batting;

GESLCC Bowling;

The official dinner after the first day match was set up at the beautiful outdoor terrace of the match premisesAt the party, Mr. Premal Former captain of the Oporto Team congratulated the winning team and informed that Mithusan has been selected as the Man of the match for his best batting performance.

The Oporto Management congratulated the GESLCC members for their participation for the 8th consecutive year.  Oporto team expressed their wish in that the GESLCC would participate this annual match in years to come. They also wished that more participants and guests would join in the future.

Unhappiness end and give away the match

2. The T20 Match of GICC against GESLCC ended up with great disappointment.  Based on the feed back from the players, the Captain of GESLCC took wrong decisions on the ground for not having used able bowlers according to the opposition batting attack.  Also while chasing the winning target of 186 runsthe GESLCC middle order batting got stuck at one point and then the batting collapsed before reaching the goal and got 22 runs behind. The overall performance of the decision making at the leadership level was questionable according to many.

3. The No 2-CSPL 40 over against GICC was won by 8 wickets. GESLCC was chasing the target of 179.  Zakeer , Uddika (injured), not out scored 59, 64  respectively, and the highest scorer of the innings to give confidence to the rest of the players. Mithusan, Dugal  & Krishanta respectively  scored 23, 22, 10 runs. The match was completed within 21 overs to gain an easy win. The captain Dugal, Vice captain Arun managed to get the team spirit in both fielding and batting, while all the players were happy enthusiastic overall.

4. The No 3-CSPL  40 over against Cern CC was won by 118 runs with entertainment –  summer barbecue organize by the club.

GESLCC overall batting/bowling was excellent and the players were motivated

Andrew CCC captain won the toss and requested GESLCC to bat first.  GESLCC captain Dugal took this offer and batted first with home advantage. Dugal & Krishantha opened and the first wicket fell at 47 runs on the 8th over.  Dugal was bowled out for 27 runs. The 9th wicket fell at the 40th over, totaling 297 runs at the scoreboard.

Krishantha 41, Joseph 56, Uddika 19, Mithusan 15, Roshan 19, Ravi 0, Lalantha 29, Arun 36, Idriss 24,n/o Anthony 3 n/o .

The second wicket partnership was 136Zakeer L.B.W. given out at 56 runs(5×6,4×4) and third wicet Krishantha 41 runs (Caught behind the wicket) (1×6, 4×4) .

Cern CC Captain Andrew scored the highest with runs 61.  He was run out while steadily batting. Awars 38, and Dawood 37 runs while facing theGESLCC strong and accurate bowling attack.  Idriss opener took 5 wickets in his allocated 8 overs 29 runs two maiden.  Mithusan 3 overs and 6 runs, and all the other bowlers has fully contributed to get them all out for 192 runs within 33 overs. The fielding was average and there is much toimprove, particularly with unnecessary throwing gave extra runs during the innings.
