The Lunar eclipse probably brought good fortune to GESLCC

The Lunar eclipse probably brought good fortune to GESLCC at Parc de Parilly in Lyon, France, with a win in their 40-over game against Rhone Cricket Club, Lyon. History was made by GESLCC openers with a record breaking opening stand which resulted in a 7-wicket victory in their CSPL 40-Over Swiss League competition game.

Rhone CC won the toss and elected to bat first and made 304 runs all out with two balls remaining in their 40 overs.

GESLCC captain Mounir strategically tried all bowlers. Unfortunately, with a few dropped catches and poor fielding, the Rhone batsmen took advantage of the lapses to score 304 runs. Good contributions came from Peter 49, Charles 42 not out, and Mustafa 29 runs.
Noor & Uddika had spells of 8 overs each, followed up with 7 overs from Lalantha, 5 from Mounir, 4 each from Neil & Manoj, 3 from Idrees and a solitary last over from Arun.

Rhone CC treated GESLCC players with an Indian style rice & curry meal followed by dessert.

Chasing 304 runs was a monumental task in a hot summer weather but GESLCC reached the target with ease with good partnerships. Opener Arun was out LBW in the second over of the innings when the total score was only 19. This brought in Neil to join Idress and they put in a partnership of 94 runs. Idrees was finally out LBW for 54 runs. Skipper Mounir decided to send in Joseph (Zakeer), a middle order batsmen and all-rounder in his second year with the team, who is better known for his bowling. Joseph played an excellent innings scoring a brilliant 92 runs but missed a well-deserved century as he was caught at covers by the Rhone CC captain.

At this point, the scoreboard was at 238 runs for 3 wickets in 27 overs. Then Uddika joined Neil, to chase down the target of 304 with an entertaining performance to win the first match for the 2018 season.
